Portsmouth Hometown Hero, Missy Elliott, Receives Key to the City and Street Named in Her Honor



Portsmouth, VA- Four time Grammy Award Winner, Missy "Misdemeanor" Elliott, returned to her hometown of Portsmouth, Virginia to attend the ceremony during which it was declared that a portion of what was once McLean Street would now be known as Missy Elliott Boulevard. In a Tweet by 51 year old Elliott, you can see her happily dancing in the halls of Manor High School where she graduated in 1990, back when it was named Woodrow Wilson High School.


The ceremony consisted of a parade complete with area marching bands, including Norfolk State, that played a Missy Elliott tribute mash-up of her well known hits; & Virginia Governor Glen Youngkin presenting the proclamation that October 17th will officially be Missy Elliott Day with a Key to the City. Democratic congressman, Bobby Scott, also attended the ceremony along with longtime friends of the Songwriters Hall of Fame inductee; Pusha T, Timbaland & Trey Songz.
